Learning that one CAN do math is almost as important as learning HOW TO do math.

About the Tutor

Philosophy

I chose to be a tutor because I believe that personalized individual math instruction gives the tutor a chance to "see" a student's thought processes about mathematics and respond accordingly. This means that I can then:

  • Present new ways to look at topics

  • Find and fill conceptual holes from prior math courses

  • Correct misconceptions

  • Discuss ways to improve study and test-taking practices

  • Increase confidence.

For students with learning disabilities or ADHD, one-on-one tutoring can give focus to the student and opportunity for the tutor to adaptation. I encourage my students to know how they best learn, and I use as many ways to teach as I can, including discussion, visual aids and manipulatives.

Learning that one CAN do math is almost as important as learning HOW TO do math. Although my first goal is that students are able to understand enough mathematics to meet their goals, I also work to foster an appreciation for math and the confidence to pursue problem-solving in the world around them.

Whether you are a parent, student, or just someone who wants to know a little more math, I'm available to help.
